Differentiated Instruction (DI)
Targeted Audience: Educators in grades 4th-12th
Differentiated Instruction is an instructional concept that maximizes learning for all studentsregardless of skill level or background. It's based on the fact that in a typical classroom, students vary in their academic abilities, learning styles, personalities, interests, background knowledge and experiences, and levels of motivation for learning. Core Connections DI workshops are designed to enhance teachers instructional practices in order to improve student achievement for at-risk students, students with disabilities, English language learners and gifted students.
Core Connections DI workshops are divided into five two-hour modules.

? activate prior knowledge
? use their knowledge of text structure
? concentrate on ideas
? ask themselves questions while reading
? test their inferences
? evaluate meaning
R.A.C.E. helps middle and high school teachers gain knowledge and skills to assess students' reading skills; integrate speaking, listening, reading, and writing into all content areas; develop instructional tools to use with students; and teach comprehension strategies, word skills, study skills, and critical reading skills.
